Established in June 2018, as an incorporated association, with a primary objective to promote sustainable development principles through research, education, and innovation.
We have adopted the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals as ours guiding framework to accomplish our objectives.
Australia is one of the prosperous OECD economies. In the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Index, Australia is ranked 35th among 193 UN Member States with an overall score of 75.58 (as per 2021 available data). In this ranking Finland is the highest-ranking SDG country with an overall score of 85.90. A score of 100 indicates that all Sustainable Development Goals have been achieved.
The country’s overall the Human Development Index (HDI) ranking is 8th out 189 countries with an overall HDI value of 0.944 as per the 2020 UNDP Human Development Report. In 2015 the Country was at the 2nd position out of 188 countries as per the 2016 UNDP Human Development Report. Australia is also one of the early adopters of sustainable development strategy. Australia adopted the National Strategy for Ecologically Sustainable Development in 1992.
At the same time our country faces many challenges because of over-consumption behaviour, discrimination to aboriginal communities, catastrophic bushfire, regular drought, climate change challenges, obesity, gender gaps, green-house gas emission and ageing population.
Australia’s per capita CO2 emission was about 15.75 metric tons per capita in 2014 and 15.47 metric tons per capita in 2018 whereas the OECD average is 8.8 metric tons per capita in 2018 (as per available data, Source World Bank). In addition to that Australia wastes over 7.3 million tonnes of food each year which is intended for human consumption. Foodbank, the largest food rescue organisation of Australia, along provides food relief to over 815,000 Australians each month. The wasted food has significant impact on the environment because of waste of resources such as land, water, energy, and fuel, used in producing, manufacturing, packaging, distributing, and preparing food (National Food Waste Strategy).

Australian Centre for Sustainable Development Research & Innovation (ACSDRI) is a Research Institute for Sustainable Development. Since 2018, ACSDRI has conducted several Sustainability Conferences, Seminars and Presentations for promoting on educational awareness program on UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, Education for Sustainable Development, Circular Economy, ESG Standards, and on Biodiversity. We also published Literatures on Sustainable Development such as Sustainability Magazines (The Blue Planet), Book on Sustainability Public Policies, Sustainability Articles, and Book Reviews.
ACSDRI is also committed to promote awareness on Biodiversity Visit Biodiversity Knowledge Forum #biodiversitymatters.
From 2024 we are also starting our new stakeholder engagement program SDG & Circular Economy in Action Podcast Series and a Comprehensive Training on Circular Economy and Carbon Management.
